One of the main reasons we decided to develop an outpatient bariatric program was due to our patients asking us to give them this option. Our patients and our team were growing tired of the insurance denials and frankly the waste of time. It was heartbreaking to see someone complete all the necessary steps that sometimes took up to 6 months to complete only to have their insurance deny the surgery because their BMI was one point too low, or they did not have enough comorbidities - meaning you are not sick enough to have the surgery.
